Kate and The Snow Patrol

So H&M have done something….thank the lord. Man, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Ms Moss, but I do have a problem with companies who behave as complete hypocrite which is what it was looking like, following the expose on Kate and the Snow Patrol.

People, like I said to my sister, life’s tough, but we all have to stand for something, whether we’re big co-operate organisations or individuals. We’ve still got to be accountable. I know for fact that none of her close friends are going to judge her, cause I doubt very much that they were unaware that she skied regularly…but unless the companies she represents are going to come out and say, it’s ok. Then they need to stop being hypocrites and sort it out.

So her’s my letter to H&M…RESPECT!!!!!!!...even grandma applauded.

I must admit like most people I don’t ever write in to comment on anything, voting at times even becomes a chore, even though I’ll rant on about Bush, Iraq and other topical issues like some noble laureate.

Like most people, I think of myself as a pretty liberal twenty-something…for this against, against that etc, etc. But right now, I feel compelled to thank you, congratulate you, just give you my sincere respect, in words, in kisses, in any darn way I can, on your recent decision to cancel your advertising campaign with model, Kate Moss. I myself like any blue blooded male is a Kate Moss fan, I mean, the girl is HOT.

I’m no anti-drugs campaigner but in an age where people have no faith in co-operate bodies, and a complete mis-trust for the intentions of retailers and their branding techniques – your decision is not only a brave one but one which has restored my faith in what I had begun to feel was a hypocritical money driven industry.

The truth is, that drugs, such as cocaine, are everywhere and apart of so many peoples life’s, but they can still cause devastating effects on individuals and families, like my own, and therefore must never be seen to be condoned by people of power and position.

Hey, in the end all I can say is that, even when business is involved we all must still have responsibility to all those who buy into our ideals, dreams, products etc.

I’m going shopping in one of your stores tomorrow. Getting me some H&M goodies…here’s to people leading the way.

19.09.05

I’m so tired today and I’m not sure why, maybe I’m a little anxious about my recent trip, I don’t know, but, i don’t think so. I had a wonderful weekend though, spent in the company of friends and family…time just seemed to tick just right and then just draw to a close right on the money.

There is always so much to do…but sometimes…nada.

I need a red bull or something, right now though.

Who is Frank Wills?

I finally watched Spike Lee's She Hates Me last night, as well as the Lord of the Rings the Return of the King. The final instalment in the Trilogy - I so wish I’d watched it in the cinema - some movies there is just no substitute for the big screen.

Anyway - let's concentrate on She Hates Me; the plot.....read link

I'm still not sure of what to make of it - the film is a mess of ideas, from homosexuality, black homophobia, corporate fraud, ethics, morality etc. What struck me most was the identification of the security guard, Frank Wills, who exposed the Watergate break-in and ruined his own life in the process while the criminals (Liddy, Dean, Nixon, Erlichman, Haldeman etc.) grew wealthy, in part because of their notoriety.

Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing was probably the defining moment in my adolescence, everything changed for me after watching that movie. It was then that i felt what it truly meant to tell a story to an audience.

Lee described, She Hates Me, to the New York Times, "This film is not haphazard, it's not a mess. There was a blueprint that it should be hectic, that there should be a lot of things going on... That was the thought process, to reflect the velocity at which stuff comes to us."

Perhaps, that’s why the movie lost me. Characters where to Hardy like in there caricatures moving from comedy to drama with to much flip flop ease. Whatever he does, there will always be apart of me that look at Mr Lee’s movies with a certain shade of rose tinted glasses, he is without doubt an inspiration and though not evident in this movie, a groundbreaking artist.

Late Registration

The new album by Kanye West is a complete suprise, not that i wasn't expecting it to be good - but not this good. It's on heavy rotation at the moment- and i must say he's gone up in my estimation. (add his recent comments on the situation in New Orleans)

Lyrically his flow is not up there with the greats, but his style suits his soulful thoughtful beats to the ground. Common's verse on My way Home is so good, Kanye didn't even try and step. And you got to give props to anyone who can get Jay and Nas on the same album.

Plus his willingness to tackle issues beyond the normal 'cash crop' name dropping, lifestyle refering confines of recent commercial hip hop is refreshing. For a hip-hop artist that is N0.1 on the album charts in the uk - with album consisting of tracks without referncing to the number of bullet holes in his chest but rather conflict diamonds from Sierra Leone......u just got to stand up.

Kanye...make i'm guess the next album will be titled. 1st Class hons. (and i skipped class)

Top Three Tracks

Track 7. My Way Home
Track 9. Roses
Track 11. Addiction

and the La la la intro to Hey Mamma has got to get a mention.

The Silicone Wristband - A Message of Progress

The Long Weekender - Sunday/Monday

Carnival - wristbands - street hustling - carrying a whole bunch of rucksacks, coolers, mop sticks etc - floats -a whole sea of poeple - man it was something. I didn't even have enough energy to order ice-cream monday night after it was all over and we sat in an ice cream palour, with a bunch of friends that had helped us out. Totally bush wacked. Hopefully we've done some good. Can't thank everyone enough

The Long Weekender - Saturday

So to saturday, had to start early to sort out what was going to be one hell of a two days at the Notting Hill Carnival, selling wristbands a friend and i had made to raise money for charity.

But first things first, family.....since i'm stuck in a house with four women, i'm, the refernece point for any manual duties. Which is kinda nice, since i get to eat well. There's nothing like having your mum and sister over to stay. Long gone are those lazy hungry bachelor nghts.

I managed to drag myself to a bbq south of the river, which was fun....damn those kebab sticks were so tasty, i was licking my lips all the way to see the Platinum Pied Pipers at the Jazz Cafe. The set had already started when i arrived...but even so it didn't take long to get into the vibe...it was just one of those head banging performances that just ensures that your body, feet and head are all moving. Tiombe blew me away - she had awesome presence. The show in general was pretty good....especially the encore of Deep Inside was just tooooooo much. I first heard that track nightwalking to the summer boundless cd......it was even better live, with the whole crew going crazy on stage.

I missed ?uestlove, just like i missed Jazzy Jeff....so i'm getting used to missing out on classic dj sets. But i had to rush of to a friends birthday, which i'm glad i did.
